What if we started holding on?
Maybe it’s not about starting anew.
Redoing or relearning.
Maybe it’s not about stopping.
Giving up or letting go.
Maybe it’s about holding on.
Savoring.
Cherishing.
What if we started holding on more.
More to the things we love. Like our Mario coffee mug. The palm tree keychain from that one Florida vacation. The lucky pink socks, worn since freshman year.
More to joy. The laugh of a loved one. So loud and giggly, it makes the whole restaurant tune in. The reenacting of our favorite show despite the circumstance or company. “PIVOT!”. The joy of belly laughs, or playlists, or chilled dark chocolate caramel pulled from the hidden spot in the refrigerator.
More to our people. The people that cheer for us when it’s quiet. When it’s unpretty, unpopular, unaccomplished. The people that show up. With cookies, or a change of clothes, or some juicy Housewives gossip just to get your mind off things.
Yes it’s a new year.
Yes it’s full of new, unwritten pages. Opportunities abound.
But I want to hold on. To the little things. The joyful things. The people that I love.
I’m squeezing tightly. Not letting it go.
I’m bringing it all with me. Into this new year.
I hope you hold on too.
To all that is ahead, may it be filled with joy, love and all that you hold dear.
Play you,
Coach D
